Rotary Charity fund raising 2019
A brief summary of some of the charity work we have done over the past two years.
Young people
RYLA - sending two or three local teenagers for a week on a leadership development course in the Brecon Beacons, encouraging participation from youth organisations in the Haven area as well as schools.
Youth competitions - funding and organising Young Musician, and Young Photographer competitions
Provision of prizes at the annual Milford School Prize giving Day.
Sponsorship of three Milford Haven Sea Cadets onto week long courses on the offshoreTraining ships.
Sponsorship of Gelliswick Explorer Scouts, Milford Haven Girls FC, Llangwm Junior Soccer, Milford Haven Sea Scouts, 7th Milford Haven Brownies for both major purchases and minor items.
Kids Out – taking disadvantaged children identified by the 3 schools in Milford Haven for a day out at Folly Farm - we took 70 children in 2018!!
Young Carers - organising a pre- Christmas bowling evening and supper.
Community
Direct financial and manpower support of deserving causes both for individuals and local organisations
e.g. H.O.P.E., DPJ Foundation, Pill Social Centre, Milford Haven Youth Matters, Milford Haven Carnival, Air Ambulance Wales.
Very occasional exceptional support for individuals in challenging circumstances -
We managed to get support from both the South Wales Rotary District and a Rotary District in Philadelphia to support the travel and expenses costs for Megan Sadler to have a specialised operation for scoliosis ( distortion of the spine) which was routinely practiced ( 150 times ) in the centre of excellence in the USA, but not available in the UK.
International
We occasionally run special fund raising events for international support joining projects carried out by Rotary International including Polio eradication, and disaster support - ShelterBoxes and post-disaster recovery projects such as provision of fishing boats, training and local support in Indonesia and Vanuatu.
